INTRODUCTION
“How might we make controlling multiple smart home devices simple, intuitive, and scalable?”
HMW Statement
PROBLEM
As Arçelik’s smart home ecosystem rapidly expanded, the HomeWhiz platform struggled to deliver a consistent and intuitive user experience. The interface had become fragmented across different devices and features, making it difficult for users to connect, control, and automate their appliances with confidence.
At the same time, the platform’s design system couldn’t scale to accommodate new products and functionalities. This created friction for users and inefficiencies for the business — highlighting the need for a unified, user-centered redesign that could simplify complexity while supporting growth.
ROLE
As a UX/UI Designer on the HomeWhiz project, I was responsible for designing the end-to-end user experience and interface of the platform. I collaborated with strategists, researchers, and product teams to translate user insights into clear interaction flows and intuitive visual designs.
My work included creating wireframes, prototypes, and high-fidelity UI screens, as well as designing custom icons and visual components. I focused on improving usability, ensuring consistency across devices, and crafting a cohesive design system that supported both user needs and the platform’s growing smart home ecosystem.
GOALS
- Simplify the user experience across a diverse smart home ecosystem.
- Create a unified design language for consistency and clarity.
- Improve usability and engagement for core device interactions.
- Design for scalability to support future IoT devices and features.
- Strengthen brand perception with a modern, cohesive visual identity.
- Support business goals by driving adoption and user satisfaction.
IMPACT
As an agency project, the redesign underwent multiple rounds of usability testing, which produced very positive results and demonstrated significant improvements in user understanding, efficiency, and satisfaction.
After handing off the design to Arçelik, we received feedback indicating a meaningful positive impact on their business and customer experience. While specific metrics were not disclosed, the project successfully delivered a more intuitive, scalable, and visually consistent smart home platform, laying the foundation for future growth and product expansion.
